    Gravel & Aggregate Calculator

Work out how much gravel, sand, topsoil or mulch a project needs — volume in cubic yards or cubic metres, weight in tons or tonnes, plus delivered cost.

    How the estimate is built

Volume is area × depth. For a rectangle that is length × width; for a circle it is π × (diameter ÷ 2)². Depth is entered in inches or centimetres because aggregate is almost always spread in shallow layers — 2–3 inches for a walkway, 4 inches for a patio base, 6+ inches for a driveway.

Weight is volume × bulk density. The densities used here are typical dry, loose values for landscape aggregate; wet or compacted material can weigh 10% more, and suppliers quote by weight, so order a little above the calculated figure. One cubic yard is exactly 0.764554857984 m³ and one US ton is 2,000 lb.
