One English word, two systems

European traders applied "tical" to whatever local unit filled the role of an ounce-scale weight in mainland Southeast Asia. In Burma that was the kyat-tha at 16.32932 g; in Siam it was the baht at 15.244 g. Colonial-era documents use the word for both without distinguishing them.

Name the country every time. If a source does not, look at what it is measuring: rice and produce point to Myanmar, gold ornaments to Thailand, and colonial trade returns to whichever administration produced them.

For gold, always carry three numbers together — weight unit, gram equivalent and fineness. A tical or baht figure alone is not enough to price or insure an item.
